Happy Nightmare was an album I made considering starting a band with My friend Barbara Who I knew from highschool. I think I talked about it but we never were really able to be in the same places at the same time. Unbeknownst to them I think I had already been working on songs and a concept. This album was a story of two lovers who meet in dreams both living beings and some how connect in dreams, never really being able to find each other in the living world. The lovers were written as Male and Female. Some songs were in his voice the others in hers. I never felt I finished the music and obviously never wrote the lyrics, I wanted one song to be about just dreams and Muybridge movie about horses (which people thought the horses were floating) , then on to the main theme. There is a riff I am ok, with but have left here it's a bit long so I split it in two seemed like two ideas any way, I think I made a similar more devolved riff that is similar but for some thing else (different release different project) . Choose not to exclude it because I feel it's the middle song the conversation, two parts play sort of collaged together may be they don't fit well but it's like the two musical parts are talking to each other and that is the point they were talking to each other, a bit disorienting perhaps but not exactly if you think about people taking turns to talk. A song I can think of that is similar that has two different musical phrases for two characters is Some Velvet Morning, I think most songs try to not be disorrenting or as apparent that two people are talking to each other, they do it more smoothly or over the same musical lines (as in Person 1 sings verses a chorus or other part comes in or no other part some in and person 2 sings verse 2 over the same music as verse 1). Any way that's my long winded explanation of why I left it.

As the story went and this was the ending I was playing with, is that both lovers end up frustrated not being able to really spend their time with each other just at some unexpected dream moments. I think I was gonna write one of the Characters being so frustrated they resist sleeping for days may be a month, to get over it, to try to get past their obsession, but inevitably sleep must come. Possible endings were agreed upon comas or suicides to spend their lives together in sleep or in death. Either one one was gonna accidentally die or accidentally be in a coma while the other was successful in their attempt to what ever the plan was. So One would end up in the afterlife and one asleep forever but both alone with out each other...
that was the concept this is the unfinished music.... and the one drawing I thought always appealed to me for this.

I probably wrote these tunes some time between 2003 – 2005.

Happy Nightmare name was inspired by the band Opal
